Choose your trip in Norway
How to choose your trip in Norway?
The travel format depends mainly on distances: Norway stretches nearly 1,750 kilometers from south to north, and an itinerary covering Oslo, the fjords and the Lofoten Islands requires time. A 3 to 8-day trip lets you combine the capital, the legendary Oslo-Bergen train, a major fjord (Sognefjord or Hardanger) and an Arctic stop in Tromsø. To add the Lofoten Islands by car, the North Cape or a Hurtigruten segment, plan for 8 to 12 days instead. Travelers wanting to include Svalbard should set aside three full weeks.
Different trip types
Our cultural itineraries highlight medieval stavkirker churches, Hanseatic Bergen, Røros and Sami culture in Karasjok. Our adventure trips offer hiking on Besseggen or Trolltunga, kayaking in the fjords, snowmobiling and dog sledding in Norwegian Laponia, or whale watching in Skjervøy. Family journeys focus on the Flåm train, fjord-side farms, nights in rorbu cabins in the Lofoten Islands and aurora hunting in winter, with short stages suited to children.
What's the best season?
From late May to mid-September, the fjords can be explored in temperatures between 15 and 22°C, with midnight sun above the Arctic Circle from late May to mid-July. June and early September offer the best balance between daylight and crowds. For the northern lights, the window opens from late September to late March, peaking from February to early March under reliable snow. Southern winters are grey and humid, while Finnmark winters are dry and bright from January onward.
