When traveling, keeping your devices charged is essential, whether you're using your phone, camera, or GPS. In Norway, good news: the country follows the European standard, which greatly simplifies life for travelers.

When traveling, keeping your devices charged is essential, whether you're using your phone, camera, or GPS. In Norway, good news: the country follows the European standard, which greatly simplifies life for travelers.

Plug Types and Compatibility

Norway uses Type C and F plugs, identical to those found in most European countries. If you're coming from the European Union, no adapter is necessary. However, visitors from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, or Australia will need to bring a plug adapter.

Most modern devices (smartphones, tablets, computers, cameras) are designed to work across a 100 to 240 V range, meaning a simple adapter will suffice. Only certain older equipment, such as hair dryers or razors, may require a voltage converter.

Voltage and Frequency

  • Voltage: 230 volts
  • Frequency: 50 Hz
  • European standard: perfectly suited for devices from EU countries.
  • Differences with other regions:
    • North America (United States, Canada): 110 volts / 60 Hz
    • Japan: 100 volts / 50–60 Hz depending on the region
  • Tip: If traveling from outside Europe, always verify the compatibility of your devices before departure.

Adapters and Converters

In practice, there are two solutions:

  • Plug adapter: it simply allows you to plug in a device whose connector isn't compatible.
  • Voltage converter: it transforms the voltage, useful only for certain older devices not compatible with 230V.

In the vast majority of cases, a plug adapter will be sufficient.

Practical Tips

Before leaving, ensure that your chargers and accessories are compatible. If you're coming from a country outside Europe, a universal adapter is strongly recommended. A compact power strip can also prove practical for charging multiple devices at once in your accommodations. Finally, for your hikes or long car journeys, remember to pack a portable battery or solar charger so you stay connected, even in the heart of nature.
